Patricia Rose Duignan
Patricia Rose Duignan began her career in visual effects with Star Wars in the mid-1970s, quickly advancing to lead the production department at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) for Return of the Jedi. Recognizing the need to expand ILM's influence and visibility, she then established the company’s first Marketing Department, further solidifying ILM’s presence in the industry. Throughout her career, Rose has demonstrated a deep commitment to nurturing young talent and ensuring the future of the visual effects industry. This commitment was evident in her successful efforts to establish a daycare center for the families of ILM and Lucasfilm employees, recognizing the importance of supporting both the personal and professional lives of those in the industry.
After 25 years at ILM, Rose became the Executive Producer of the stop-motion show Bump In The Night for ABC, further demonstrating her passion for innovative storytelling. Beyond production, Rose authored a book on ILM published by Ballantine and developed the Creativity Program for Lucasfilm, adopted by Nippon Telephone & Telegraph (NTT). Her dedication to education was further reflected in her efforts to place graduates of Expression College's VFX and animation program throughout the industry before she pursued an MBA from the Berkeley/Columbia program, where she was honored as "Most Distinguished Student" by her peers.
Rose’s passion for fostering the next generation of VFX artists has been a guiding principle throughout her career. In 2023, she was awarded a Lifetime Membership by the Visual Effects Society (VES) for her contributions to the industry. She continues to serve on both the VES Global Board (2024-2028) and the Bay Area Board (2023-2026), where her focus remains on mentoring emerging talent and ensuring the industry's future remains bright and innovative.
